Principal Product Manager (Chicago, IL)

About this Role

You will work as an integral part of the Technology Team to lead the refinement of our product development process with a focus on innovation, iteration, and impactful releases. Collaborate effectively with the Director of Product on all aspects of our portal, mobile, IVR & interoperability product lines to provide product vision and strategy, market analysis, requirements, development, pricing, cross-team collaboration and driving agile practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director of Product to drive the overall product vision and strategy
    • Translate product vision into a product strategy that can guide and inform mid- and near-term priorities
    • Create and maintain a roadmap, or trajectory, that communicates outcomes to be achieved
    • Ensure strong alignment between customer needs, business objectives, and development activities
      • Plan and conduct two annual Customer Advisory Boards
      • Conduct quarterly product business reviews with key external strategic stakeholders
      • Define and communicate external release plans
  • Lead the evolution and continuous improvement of product development practices, especially in the areas of product management, user experience, solution design, and functional specification
    • Identify improvement opportunities in Product processes and practices
    • Drive the adoption of practices, tools, and deliverables that facilitate effective solution delivery and realization of business value
    • Model continuous learning, use of effective practices, and creation of high-quality deliverables
    • Mentor and inspire the members of the team to do their best work and grow in their capabilities and career
    • Provide training, coaching, mentoring, feedback, and critique as needed to achieve these goals
  • Ensure delivered solutions are aligned with product strategy, meet customer needs, and enable all who use our applications to work with confidence and ease
    • Conduct market analysis, user research, customer/stakeholder interviews, and other activities as needed to identify product opportunities
    • Prioritize product requests to realize value through timely solution delivery
    • Define user or job stories, conditions of satisfaction, and acceptance criteria that provide clear, crisp, verifiable descriptions of the required functionality
    • Participate in UI design, UX design, and software development teams to transform the overall product design vision into intuitive, usable and engaging app experience
    • Create and, as needed, maintain deliverables
    • Work with the development team to create and manage a prioritized product backlog and identify development dependencies. Proactively and frequently evaluate delivered solutions. Participate in development of team planning and review activities
  • Build relationships and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, clients, partners, business managers, and development team
