Why Video Interviews Should Be In Your Strategy

While there are many reasons to include the utilization of video interviews in your hiring processes, these are what we consider to be the top reasons to include them in your HR strategy.

1 | AVOID THE COST OF A BAD HIRE

Hiring the wrong people can be devastating to your business. Hiring people through traditional means can be time-consuming, expensive and inconvenient. But nowhere near as inconvenient, time-consuming and expensive as having brought the wrong candidate on board and wasted time and resources on training them. Video interviews help avoid the problem of bad hires by giving greater insight into a candidate.

2 | SAVE ON VALUABLE RESOURCES

The hiring process doesn’t need to be as time-consuming, expensive and inconvenient as it traditionally has been. By using video interviews, recruitment can happen when it is convenient for each party individually instead of coordinating schedules. And candidates who clearly don’t fit with the company can be dismissed quickly, easily and early, leaving more time for qualified candidate evaluations.

3 | EMPLOYEES ARE YOUR MOST VALUABLE ASSET

People are more than what their resume shows. Until video interviews became a part of the HR world, first decisions were made on the basis of paper alone. Many people could seek the help of qualified writers and get their resume professionally revamped to get them past the first round of resume cuts. But then many of these people who clearly either were unqualified for the position or whose personality was not an appropriate fit would come in for interviews, having wasted time and energy on the process on all sides. With video interviews, candidates have the opportunities to show their skills and their personality at the convenience of the recruiter who can decide at any point in the evaluation process either to move them ahead to the next level or to stop considering them.

4 | IDENTIFY CANDIDATE SOFT SKILLS

Video interviews allow recruiters to see the unspoken characteristics of a candidate, evaluate their warmth and friendliness and read their nonverbal communications. Skills alone don’t determine fit. Personality counts and cannot be revealed in a resume.

 

Trying to find qualified candidates can either be like searching for a four-leaf clover in a field or like using a laser-guided paper cutter to make sure everything happens precisely. If you don’t want to spend your days lost in a field, grab onto the technology that allows you to hone in on what you want and cut away the excess smoothly. Video interviews make those decisions easier, faster and more comprehensive.
