The New Caney Independent School District (NCISD) is a fast-growing school district in the Houston area, with over 17,000 students. New Caney aims to prepare their students for the realities of tomorrow and enable them to become responsible citizens, effective communicators, and lifelong learners.


One of New Caney ISD’s biggest challenges is filling staff positions in their schools. Trina Persson, Director of Recruitment and Retention, says that post-COVID it is even more difficult to recruit educators than before. Education candidates are now not only considering positions with other school districts, but also in completely different industries.


NCISD uses Frontline Recruiting & Hiring and interviewstream’s video interviewing platform to streamline recruiting and screening. As part of their screening process, candidates have the opportunity to provide a video interview. The New Caney ISD hiring team reaches out personally to the applicants to guide them through the video interviewing process, giving them detailed instructions on how to complete the interview and who to reach out to if they encounter any issues.

The video interviews are especially useful at hiring fairs. Completing a screening interview before the job fair allows candidates to get to know the school district beforehand and come to the fair with one round of interviews done. Trina believes this enables candidates to come to the job fair feeling more confident.
