How to Recruit Top Teacher Talent Faster

Esteban Gomez | October 8, 2019

How is your school district making sure that the best teacher candidates are hired more quickly? Just one bad hire can cost a district up to 2.5 times the teacher’s salary after recruiting, replacement and onboarding expenses. That’s not something any school or district can afford these days. We know…and we want to help.

With the current teacher deficit, where 8% of teachers are leaving each year to pursue other careers, it is really important to push candidates through your hiring process more quickly and make sure that your district is able to recruit the best teachers before competing districts steal them.

Wondering how exactly you can get teachers through the interview process faster? Here are a few things that can help school districts save time and money and hire teachers more quickly:

  • Schedule interviews faster: If you and your recruiters spend hours just on the tedious back-and-forth emails and calls to schedule interviews with teachers, consider automating your interview scheduling, which allows you to eliminate those tedious emails and simply send automated invites that link with your own calendar. Teachers can then choose a time when both of you are available and it’s as easy as sending a text message for everyone. For example, a teacher that wants to schedule an interview outside of school hours can schedule a late afternoon interview with a district, provided that the recruiter’s calendar is free at that time.
  • Complete interviews faster: One way to complete the hiring process faster is to add in an on-demand digital interview.  These on-demand interviews allow candidates to complete video interviews with pre-recorded video, vocal or written questions and responses on their own time. According to LinkedIn, a principal can review 100 on demand video interviews in the same amount of time it takes to complete 15 phone screen interviews. The information you can get from an on demand interview typically reduces the average time spent on reviewing applications from five hours to two hours per candidate.
  • Expand your reach: In addition to on-demand digital interviews, you can utilize live two-way video interviews and interview teachers from other districts, states or even countries to expand your reach.  This doesn’t just save you time and money on the travel costs associated with bringing candidates in for in-person interviews, it also helps you decide if you want to fly these candidates in to meet them in person. You’ll be able to better gauge a potential teacher’s fit for your district (or school) by seeing their body language and personality during the conversation.

By now, you’ve learned how interviewing software can help districts schedule and complete interviews more quickly while expanding candidate reach to other districts, states and even countries. Help your school district identify and qualify top teachers more quickly, reducing time to hire and costs associated with interviewing.
